Here is another example of enviromental propaganda. i attempted to read this book because i was genuinely interested in the subject matter. however the book was written as the screaming preachy rand of a back woods family that i couldnt get through the first chapter. When making propaganda dont get emotional.

Green Propaganda

The world without us is a book by Alan Weisman on the topic of our planets enviromental recovery after human extinction. The book starts of in Manhattan N.Y., where the author takes you on a chronological adventure where wildlife reclaimes the city. It was very interesting, but it is only the authors speculation, these circumstances cannot be proven. The author uses the phenomonan at chernobyl to back up his thesis. In another chapter he explores the ecological success that is taking place in Koreas no man's land, enviromental success that is absent on either side of the 100,000 kilometer demilitarized zone. In sumnation the author make a great arguement stating that the only way our planet will survive in the long run is if humans are taken out of the equation.
This book is just one example of what i will call green Propaganda for lack of a better term.
Green propaganda: propaganda made with the agenda to revitalize the planets ecosystem by taking humans out of the equation.
The voluntary human extinction movement is, well exactly what it is called.This is a growing movement that aims in bringing forth the extinction of humans by a "voluntarily ceasing to breed". There website is oozing with propaganda. They have numerous charts and graphs illustrating the impact there movement will have on population. There are comic strips declaring that all the worlds problems are because people continue to breed. This statement can neither be proven nor disproven. this type of propaganda is unwarrented extrapolation. They are making assumptions about the entire human population on only a few facts. i have a hard time believing that this particular orginization will be successfull. It is just to wierd.

The rape of belgium propaganda posters made me remember a story I heard when i was visiting Belgium with my family. I was only thirteen so i may be a bit rusty on the details.
Everywhere you go in Belgium you are sure to come across an image of a young naked boy peeing. This image appears on postcards, in photos, on porcelin plates, shot glasses, novelty statues, and even those little collector spoons. He is as known and loved by the Belgians as Lois and Clark are to North Americans. His name is Mannekin pis, or Petite Julien.
There are many legends about this little boy. This is the one i was told. During WWI a little boy was playing on a hilltop outside Leuven, he noticed German soldiers marching towards the city. As they passed the hill he was playing on he, in an act of defiance urinates on the heads of the german soldiers. This same legend is also told about earlier battles. Another legend states that the boy went missing while out shopping with his mother. After searching the whole town he was found peeing in a street corner (another variation says he was found peeing in a garden). I cannot say whether any of the legends are true, either way this boy has become and icon to the belgians and is a treasured piece of their heritage. It intrigues me how this boy attained so much celebrity when no one is certain of what exactly he did other than pee. The image is so influential to them that the women of Belgium demanded that a femal version of the heroic urinater be built (much less flattering).
The Mannekin pis likeness has been used in advertising and subliminally.
His image is visible on the camel cigarette packs in the front leg and shoulder of the camel. I think its too obvious to be coincidence, yet im confused about the reasoning behind that bit of subliminal messaging."Pissed off with Sabena's high fares? Low fares have arrived in Belgium." Another example is the airline advertisement in quotes, it is accompanied by an image of the Mannekin pis.
I would consider this image to be propaganda due to repitition technique, Transfer and maybe even cardstacking( multiple legends portray him as a hero). If you consider Petite Julien to be an image of propaganda it is fairly obvious that patriotism is his only agenda and has been for several hundred years if earlier legends are to be believed. I think this is a very effective image due to its uniqueness and its taboo subject matter. It stands apart from most other examples of propaganda because it is not being used by anyone with an agenda. It is up to the viewer whether or not they want to form an opinion.

i watched both the majestic cruiser and a lesson not learned. The animated short the majestic cruiser was a bit more confusing only because i wasn't sure who the sharks were supposed to be. im guessing the U.S. though. i thought it was very funny how dumb they made the sharks out to be, all that for a toy boat. I'm assuming the video was boasting about just how magnificent and indestructable that particular battle cruiser was. I absolutely loved the scuba divers sent out by the general that was my favorite part. i also have to ask who would put a kid on the end of a crane.

My first though while watching a lesson not learned was "i highly doubt American soldiers would feed and clothe a Nazi general" i like the wolf in sheeps clothing aspect. this film was saying that the USSR will not let Nazi invasion happen again. they are putting there foot down and building a big ass wall. the little Hitler angel was amusing..

week four

This is a great example of a propaganda poster. this issue it deals with is quite obvious. it is  a fear based campaign. I think it was geared toward soldiers and sailors. it is telling them not to pick up girls at port cause they might be sick. i dont think that the woman depicted looks like a prostitute at all she looks more like a nurse.

U.S. Officials Interviewing Iraqi Nuclear Scientist

WASHINGTON  —  A scientist described as the father of Iraq's nuclear weapons program has surrendered in a Middle Eastern country and is being questioned, U.S. officials said Monday.

Jaffar al-Jaffer is believed to know key people and locations of facilities connected to Iraq's nuclear weapons program, the officials said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

Al-Jaffer fled Iraq for Syria during the war, but then went to another country and turned himself over to authorities in the last few days, officials said. The officials declined to specify what country was holding him.

U.N. inspectors describe the British-educated al-Jaffer as the father of Iraq's nuclear weapons program.

His capture, along with that of Lt. Gen. Amer al-Saadi, Saddam Hussein's alleged point man on various weapons' programs, could provide U.S. officials with a wealth of information on Iraq's chemical, biological, nuclear and long-range missile efforts.

After the 1991 Persian Gulf War, Iraq denied it had a nuclear weapons program, but U.N. inspectors determined it was trying to build an atomic bomb. Former inspectors have said Iraq had all the parts and know-how and would have gone nuclear had it not been for the Gulf War.

This was an article i found on fox's web site. It is on the iraq war. i believe this article to be propaganda because of the ridiculous claims that it makes. The content of the article is all here say. it cannot be proven or disproven.Example "Former inspectors have said Iraq had all the parts and know-how and would have gone nuclear had it not been for the Gulf War."

I believe this article was intented to rally the citizens of the united states. it was meant to gain our support of this ridiculous war. it is a fear based article basically  telling the people they will be bombed if we dont bomb first.

I thought this piece was just hilarious and very well done from a graphic standpoint. it is not convincing however. it doesnt make me want red m & m's. i believe this would fall under the catagory of transfer based propaganda. If you eat "vote" red m & m's you are part of a greater cause, what the cause is im not sure. i like to think that they are moving to coat politics in a hard candy shell. MMMM

This is a russian world war two propaganda poster. the poster appears to be suggesting that all nazi's rape and hang women. it may also suggest that all nazis are inbred swine who drool. i think it is very effective at creating a deep hatred for the nazi regime. the text reads "kill the fashist monster. very persuasive
